Social anxiety diagnosis for a teenager?
About a year ago, I read about the disorder and found it odd that so many of my social problems that I've experienced since childhood, which my parents and I had previously dismissed as the results of mere " shyness" lined up perfectly with the symptoms of SAD. I understand that an amateur diagnosis can be inaccurate plus, it's pretty pointless without treatment, right? , so I've decided that I would like to seek a professional diagnosis as well as treatment for this disorder that's been progressively taking over my life.My first question is, how would I go about this? Would I just go my doctor during my next check up, ask about the disorder, and mention my symptoms, or would I have to directly contact a therapist psychologist? My second question is, if I was to be diagnosed with SAD, would this go onto some kind of " record" that would follow me around for the rest of my life? Would my school know about this? What about colleges? Future employers? And is there any way I could request for the diagnosis to be kept confidential? Because with my fear of judgement, the last thing I would want is to be slapped with the " mental disorder" label by my classmates. My third question is, what kind of treatment would a teenager 15, to be exact receive for SAD? From what I've read, medication is risky at this age due to instability, so will I just receive therapy? Thank you so much
