Delaying surgery for prostate cancer?
I was told 8 months ago that I have prostate cancer. My gleason score is 3 4, and my doctor recommends surgery to remove my prostate. What is your experience with this disease? Has anybody with a 3 4 or 4 3 been able to live a long time without surgery? My PSA level was 4.2, but it dropped to 2.4 over the last 8 months.Thanks Sorry I wasn't clear. I have a recommendation for surgery with a " maybe it isn't unreasonable to wait and see how this develops" from the same doctor. This doctor is a surgeon, and studies have shown their preferred recommendation is surgery.Good answers from both tink and lo mcg. Choosing tink best answer because it contained personal experience. But I'm following lo mcg's advice and posting in the cancer section.
Turmeric as a supplement when battling prostate cancer?
I bought it as I heard it was helpful for psoriasis didn't help me. My boyfriend is battling inoperable late stage prostate cancer and he heard turmeric has show to shrink the tumor but that it has to be cooked. Anyone know anything about this?

Why is prostate cancer statistically one of the deadliest cancers but...?
Most info you read says that it is slow growing and most men who get it are already old and will die with it rather than of it. That just sounds contradictory to me considering it is the second leading cause of cancer death in men behind lung cancer. It's worrying that men might think that it is nothing to worry about because they are told it is slow growing. I know the five year survival rate is almost 100 % but what about after that? Five years is fine if you are 98, but what if you get it at the age of 45? Sure five years is better than five months, but it's not really what you want to hear at that age is it?I basically just don't understand the statistics, how can it be the second deadliest cancer for men but it's oh so slow growing and don't worry about it you'll probably die from something else? By the way I know of two men who died from prostate cancer and one who will probably die from it in the not so distant future.So what's up with the contradictory information out there?Denise yes i mean in the number of deaths overall from cancer in men it's the second deadliest cancer after lung cancer.How old are you Denise? You wouldn't mind only being alive for another 5 years? Are you 90? Most cancers probably have 100 % five year survival rates if you catch them early enough too.I know 5 year survival rates doesn't mean they'll die after 5 years, but many of them must do to make up the high death figures from it.

Prostate cancer question. please help?
a loved one has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. he is 54 and the cancer was caught at an early stage and his bone scan came back negative. he is overweight but i dont know if that affects anything. he is supposed to be having the prostate removed within two to three weeks along with radiation. i love this person and i want to know what his survival rates are for beating this and living a normal life again.
