Ruptures are not normally common, in fact most breast implants are rather durable. A study was done with 106 women who had breast implants for on average 11 years, only about 15% of them showed signs of a rupture. Another study also showed that only about 3% breasts have showed signs of deflation and leakage after 3 years. A ruppture occurs when the shell of the implant develops a tear or a hole. Rupptures in silicone implants are usualy "silent " as there usualy are no signs of leaking. However, saline implants with deflate when they ruppture.
